Shabbat in the Dark

We worked with FolksbieneRU and The Lost & Found Project to dream up and produce the food component for two immersive Shabbat dinners on December 16, 2016 and February 10th, 2017 at a secret location. The events incorporated a sensory experience of Russian Jewish culture through food and a sound drama performance performed by actors of the Lost & Found Project. The eyes of the guests were blinded in the first part of the evening. We developed a menu featuring nostalgic Ashkenazi food with direct connection to the performance. Once the guest took off the eye covers, they participated in a café conversation about their childhood memories and balancing Russian and American Jewish identities.
