For best results, follow these simple guidelines for serving Gefilteria gefilte fish:

  • Remove gefilte fish terrine from the box, and place it, still in the plastic wrapper, on a small plate or dish. Place gefilte fish on dish in the refrigerator at least 12 hours to thaw (thawing times vary based on refrigerator temperatures but full thawing can take up to 24 hours).
  • Once gefilte fish is thawed, remove it from the plastic wrapper and drain off any excess liquid. If needed, pat dry with a paper towel.
  • If gefilte fish is slightly frozen at the time you’d like to serve, simply slice the loaf and leave sliced pieces  at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving.
  • Serve gefilte fish in thin slices, accompanied by fresh horseradish relish. Gefilte fish will be delicious for about 5 days after thawing.
